Spring trip to upstate New York- Joel Kessler
The weather had turned cold and very rainy so my guide Michael told me we may not see any hatches but we can head down to some of the smaller tributaries of lake Erie for some Lake Erie "Bonefish" otherwise known as carp. We also may get lucky and hook into a steelhead who has come up the tribs for the carp eggs.
The weather was windy and cold as predicted. We went down to Silver creek looking then on to Chautauqua creek. First fish was a steelhead and lost it due to bad set and worse... knot broke off.
Started getting carp and these fish fought like bonefish but not as running as a bone.
I must have hooked at least 50 for the day.
Landed 1 steelhead and lost 3 or 4 more-they do not hit as hard as in the fall.
Fished to at least 8:30 Pm... one very full day.
