Pix from the Narrow River, June 8th, 2010

Jeff Hatch

Upon arrival at app 7pm, some of us went upstream and some headed toward the mouth. Tide was near high at that point . Weather was perfect.

On the upstream side of Sprague bridge, Mike, Howie, Tyler and Joel headed over to the large sand flat that is exposed from about mid tide to low. It is located midway between the mainland and the island, about midway in the flowage coming in from the left.  Mike decided to fish the marsh side. There were a lot of shad in the river and he managed to hook one but lost it but he did pick up three schoolies on chartreuse and white clousers. As the light of day disapeared, Mike switched to a black clouser and just before total darkness while the other guys were leaving the sandbar, he hooked and landed a real nice striper about 30" long.

Meanwhile, downstream Jeff got four schoolies out at the mouth and Steve got one on a Ray's fly. Theresa picked up one early halfway down to the mouth. Also there were Russ, Ben and Millsey. The rip that forms right at the mouth where the river meets the beach is fascinating. You have normal beach surf clashing with outgoing river current and it is where Steve got his first ever fly striper!

Sounds like most who went upstream got fish. Of course we have no photographic evidence. You get a big GRRRR from the webmaster.
